Marjolein Canté

Marjolein Canté started playing violin at the age of five and when she was twelve studied in Utrecht in the 'Young Talent Class' under Joyce Tan.

In 1995 she won First Prize at the Princess Christina Competition in Haarlem. From 1994 until 1996 she was leader of the second violins with the National Youth String Orchestra with which played at Carnegie Hall in New York.
From 1999 she has been a member of the Pheonix String Trio who won First Prize at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland (she was also leader of the Youth Festival Chamber Orchestra at this festival). This trio has also given concerts in The Netherlands, Portugal, Germany and Scotland.

She followed Masterclasses with Herman Krebbers, Yfrah Neaman, Ervin Schieffer, Micho Dimitrov and Rémy Baudet. In 2004 Marjolein played with the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific in Canada.

She studied at the Amsterdam and Utrecht colleges of music under Ilya Grubert and Karen Turpie and graduated in 1997.
Marjolein freelances regularly with the Radio Symfonie Orkest, the Holland Symfonia and also plays in the National Symphonic Chamber Orchestra.

Alongside this she plays in the Gaudi Quartet and in the Phoenix Duo.
